The Global Alliance for Ministries and Departments of Peace

Three national campaigns, the US, Canada and the UK founded the Global Alliance in 2004 and its first Summit was held in London in September 2005.
Subsequent Summits have been in Victoria, Canada in 2006 and in Tokyo in 2007.     In 2009 the meeting will be held in Costa Rica where President Arias, a Nobel Peace Prize winner, is in the process of establishing a Ministry for Justice and Peace.

The Global Alliance for Ministries and Departments of Peace is a coalition of grassroots activists and government and civil society organisations in over 30 countries around the world who are working for the establishment and support of ministries and departments of peace (or other such governmental structurs) that will partner with civil society to reflect and promote a culture of peace.

The mission of The Global Alliance for Ministries and Departments of Peace is to enable and facilitate the capacity of its members to share and provide resources, encouragement and support for existing and new national campaigns for Ministries and Departments for Peace around the world that would reflect and support the emergence of a global culture of peace.
